Now there are totally different reasons we talk about Pandas and Penguins, and it isn’t usually because we saw them at the zoo. Pandas and Penguins now have everything to do with content and your web presence. If you have engaged in “black hat” marketing which would include the use of bad links, no original content and the lack of organic links, you might have found yourself slapped down by Google. Do you have a blog that you communicate great information to your target market? Do you have videos that share and engage your products and services as a great solution for their problem? Is your social media linked to your website along with your LinkedIn account? Are you socializing and interacting with your audience? So many questions and so little time.

Everything that you think you used to know about marketing and your web presence is in a state of constant change. The Absolute Truth and Marketing

This week in several meetings with business owners I have heard comments like “I don’t think that really works”, “You can only do that if you do it this way” and more. It reminds me of a recent conversation with my teenage granddaughter where we were discussing some future trips I wanted to take her on with me. She replied negatively repeatedly with one thing after another to which I asked her what those opinions were based on. She replied “well someone told me this or that” I replied to her “have you ever been there before, are you making this judgement by your experience”?

Celebrating Our Independence!

What an exciting time, celebrating the July 4th holiday with fireworks, cookouts, and family events. Whenever I watch fireworks, I get chocked up to think of those that have sacrificed for our freedom. Those that made our independence possible made choices that cost them personally. They believed in a freedom for all and made choices that manifested into the great country that America has been and will continue to be.

American people are used to having freedom of speech, the right to vote, and the right to start and run businesses that provide for their families and provide jobs for others. Many sacrificed their lives, time, money for the dream of a free country. There are also many business owners that sacrificed their time, money and lives to contribute to this freedom.

We have more choices than ever in the business world today. This is a great time in America, many entrepreneurs are starting new innovative businesses that are going to provide new jobs and opportunities. New products and services are showing up everyday, creating improvements in our lives and the world we live in.

So Happy Independence Day to All. What a great day it is!

Along with mobile marketing, video marketing has skyrocketed. This can cause a business owner to feel overwhelm. No need for that, there are many choices in video. The fact that you use it, even if it is not “Hollywood” worthy is what matters.

Your target market is very visual, along with being very mobile. Your target wants to feel, see and hear about your business and products/services. YouTube is growing at a phenomenal rate which allows you to reach a quarter of a billion people searching on YouTube for your services and products everyday.

Surfing Lessons

Have you ever had a surfing lesson? Well I had my first surfing lesson last week and I learned a lot about myself and how hard and fun surfing is. The Pacific Ocean is cold, so we had to wear wet suits. We had a safety class on how to get on the surf board, how to shuffle our feet so sting-ray’s would not bother us, how to hold the board so it wouldn’t hit us in the face and break your nose. When you fall off you should fall backwards and cover your head when you surface to you don’t get whacked by the board. I paid very close attention as I was apprehensive but definitely wanting to go thru with it. Even how you stand up is important with your head straight, not looking down and the stance of your feet so you won’t fall off. Most of all we were supposed to have FUN!

What does this all have to do with marketing? A lot. There are rules for marketing, Google has many. There are procedures for choosing your domain name for successful rankings and brand recognition. There are many marketing platforms depending on your business type and model. Everyone wants to do it right, no mistakes, total success.

Well I got plenty of water in my face, I didn’t fall off, and I did have fun. I was cold for a few minutes, but didn’t notice after that. I got a real workout from the waves and was tired but happy when it was over. I had sand everywhere, but that washes off easy. Most of all I learned something new, had fun and would like to do it again.

We should know that sometimes in business we can have reservations about something new, be apprehensive about all the rules and changes, have lots of “sand” to clean off, but we can have fun! Sometimes we need to totally go out of our comfort zone and attempt that one thing we have never done. It makes us better in so many ways, and we see the world, our business and our clients in a different light. I can honestly say I am looking forward the the next “surf’s up” lesson.
